Journal Broadcast Group

Fresh off our previous victories, the Broadcast Interactive team was thrilled to tackle new sites for the Journal Broadcast Group. WTMJ-TV is just minutes away in Milwaukee, WI. There we collaborated with designers, content editors and executives from Journal to create a graphically stunning local media site.

We knew from initial meetings we would be creating a new layout for their sites. We had to accommodate the various demands of video, content and advertising. Journal also had a particular weather layout planned. To do this we needed to give the main content area more breathing room. Several days were spent hammering out a general layout and feel to the site. Then, Journal's graphic designer went to work filling in the space with compelling graphics and colors that mirrored their on-air choices.

The creative energy extended to Madison, as our design and development team went to work adding more enhancements to our system. A new layout for headlines, a new option for weather display and a new layout for story pages sprung up quickly to meet the needs of WTMJ's aggressive approach. We looked for the best possible viewing position, and placing weather forecast information in the header proved to be a wildly successful approach.

What came of the collaboration was a beautiful and well-designed site. The look and feel perfectly mirrored WTMJ-TV's on-air graphics, and the enhancements created by the Broadcast Interactive Media team caused a stir in the local market when the site launched in January 2007.

Never content to sit on our laurels, we took a similar approach with WTMJ's AM radio station, 620WTMJ. With the same layout and general features, we worked feverishly to create an entirely new look for their radio station. 620WTMJ launched with a fresh look and a new blogging platform.

The Journal Broadcast Group offered a rare and exhilarating chance to work with a station that felt strongly about their design and features. Their bold vision paralleled our own ideas, and the collaboration created sites that are as graphically beautiful as they are rich in features.
