YouNewsTV™ now launched in 40 markets
Over $120,000 in new web revenue at KSFY
Tremendous user response to San Diego wildfire submissions at KUSI
December 6 2007, Madison, WI: Broadcast Interactive Media, the leading provider of web applications and revenue solutions for more than 120 TV and radio station websites, announced today that its local social networking and user-generated video application, YouNewsTV, is now live in 40 markets through the USA. Markets included San Francisco, Detroit, Seattle, Portland, and San Diego, with many more to follow.
YouNews™ allows local media websites to accept user-submitted photo and video for web and broadcast distribution. Broadcast Interactive Media further guarantees the quality of the submissions for its clients by moderating and screening all incoming footage and comments for any copyright infringement or inappropriate content.
McKinnon-owned KUSI TV in San Diego and their viewers covered the recent wildfires in part with YouNewsTV. “Broadcast Interactive integrated YouNewsTV on our website on Monday, by Wednesday we had hundreds of some of the most compelling photos and video of the wildfires,” shares Mike McKinnon, Owner/General Manager, KUSI. “Our viewers were able to upload content online, as well as email directly from their cellphones. We were then able to feature citizen journalism submissions on-air, giving our coverage the depth and breadth our viewers demand of their local newscast. This type of utility is absolutely critical to any news organization.”
KUSI Controller/Financial Manager, Stephen Sadler, is “pleased to not only be serving our community this way, but also that as an organization we finally have ways to monetize this content.” (See KUSI for example wildfire footage.)
At KSFY, the ABC affiliate owned by Hoak Media, General Manager Kelly Manning has been extremely satisfied with local advertiser response. “Rarely have I seen such strong reaction to a promotional launch of a joint internet and TV sales initiative,” says Manning. “Our users love YouNews, and we’ve nearly sold out the available sponsorship opportunities after having the social network live on our site for only two months.” (See KSFY for sponsor and content examples.)
“KSFY is a solid example of the pure internet revenue potential of YouNews. Sponsorships sold in that market alone brought in over $120,000 in new, local, internet-only revenue,” notes Timur Yarnall, President/CEO, Broadcast Interactive Media. Yarnall further enthuses, “Advertisers across the country are excited about sponsoring credible, moderated content. Our station clients are able to experiment with new revenue streams, and station viewers are being heard in their communities. News directors are programming YouNews in their news. These have become the hallmarks of citizen journalism and we’re excited to be partnering with local media as user-submitted video settles into place alongside traditional journalism.”
